FOR LAW FIRM MARKETING AND BD DEPARTMENTS

Change how your whole department works with AI and keep the results after we leave.

Your team already has AI tools. Few departments have a shared way of using them: one standard for each workflow, one body of approved knowledge, and clear rules for what needs review. Our transformation program builds that with your team over a long-term engagement, then hands ownership to your marketing operations staff.

Where Departments Stand

In the 2026 State of the Industry Report on AI in law firm marketing and business development, 79% of firms use AI for pitch, proposal and RFP support. Only 7% have a documented, active AI roadmap for the department, and 46% say the person using the tool is the one who reviews the work. When one person finds an approach that works, few departments have a way to turn it into team practice.

What the Program Covers

Training built on your department's own work

Every program starts with a department-wide skills survey, so the curriculum fits the people in the room. Department sessions give everyone a shared method. Hands-on labs, organized by role, work on live pitches, directory submissions, bios, client alerts and events, and every lab ends with a prompt or checklist saved to a shared library. Weekly working groups rank what the labs surface by impact and effort and turn the best of it into documented department practice. Train-the-trainer materials let your marketing operations team run sessions on its own.

Reskilling your team

The first drafts and pre-pitch research that once taught junior staff the craft are now work the tools draft well. We help you rebuild that learning on purpose. Each person gets a defined role in the new way of working, from the leader who designs the department's workflows to the coordinator who learns judgment by reviewing AI drafts beside senior colleagues. Advancement through three levels (Foundations, Practitioner, Builder) rests on reviewed work. Your strongest practitioners become the mentors for everyone else.

The right context and tools: the MBD Brain

The MBD Brain is your department's shared knowledge base: approved bios and matter descriptions, firm voice and style rules, proven prompts and checklists, and pitch language, all approved before they go in. Your firm owns it. Every AI tool the department can use reads from it. Access to tools varies by firm. Some firms open a legal-grade AI platform to marketing and BD. Others reserve it for lawyers or do not license one. We match each job to the tools available to your department and rank use cases with VERDICT, our framework for deciding what to build first.

Communication guardrails

Guardrails cover all of the department's AI use, from internal research to published content. Instead of a permission request for every new use, leadership publishes clear rules once, and review scales with risk: routine internal work moves quickly, while anything clients will see or anything that touches confidential information gets the right level of review. Each workflow states where a person leads, where a person reviews, and what can run on its own. A central hub holds the policies and guides, with one owner for questions.

How Engagements Run

Each program moves through four phases: assess, design, build capability, then re-assess and hand over. A monthly planning session with your marketing operations lead and a monthly update with department leadership keep the work on track. Program length depends on your department's size, geographic footprint and starting point.

We run versions of this program with marketing and business development departments at multiple law firms. Each version is fitted to the firm's tools and where its people are starting.

What Your Department Keeps

A skills baseline and a follow-up assessment showing progress across the department.
A curriculum built on your own work, with train-the-trainer materials.
Defined roles and levels, with a standing on-ramp for new hires.
The MBD Brain, a knowledge base your department owns.
A ranked list of use cases, with requirements for each.
Guardrails and review lines for all of the department's AI use.
Recommendations on department structure, roles and staffing.

Who It Fits

The program fits departments past experimenting: several people using AI well, everyone using it differently, and no documented standard. It also fits the marketing leader who has been asked to present a plan for marketing and BD to firm leadership or the firm's AI committee.
